Difference between amendment to contract and & Variation

According to fidic 1999, variations are either initiated the Engineer or contractor is instructed to submit a proposal. It would be a change in quantity, quality, levels or dimensions, omission of any work, any additional work or change in timing and sequence of the works.


Amendment to the Contract is change in conditions of contract, adding new conditions and etc with a supplementary agreement. This amendment shall only be born by either contractor or employer with the approval of other party. Engineer has no right to amend the contract for any reason.
