Consultant Quantity Surveyor's Duties and Responsibilities


  1. -          performing risk and value management and cost control;
  2. -          advising on procurement strategy;
  3. -          preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities;
  4. -           identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks;
  5. -          preparing and analysing costings for tenders;
  6. -          allocating work to subcontractors;
  7. -           providing advice on contractual claims;
  8. -           analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports;
  9. -           valuing completed work and arranging payments;
  10. -          assisting clients in locating and accessing additional and alternative sources of funds;
  11. -          enabling clients to initiate construction projects;
  12. -           Advising on the maintenance costs of specific buildings.
  13. -          The preparation of Bills and/or Schedules of Quantities of materials, labour and services required in the construction and equipment of building, or engineering works, and;
  14. -          The preparation and valuation of progress and final payments in connection with any contract or sub-contract, and;
  15. -          The appraisal of the value of proposed constructions or other structures already erected, and;
  16. -          The preparation of specifications when required so to do, and;
  17. -          Acting as arbitrator in cases of dispute in connection with building, or engineering work, when required so to do, and;
  18. -          To advise from time to time on cost management, or value management.
  19. -          To carry out such other duties as may properly be those of a Quantity Surveyor.
