FIRE DETECTION AND PROTECTION SYSTEM

This article is about the fire detection and protection system of a building.

Fire detection system of the building consist of smoke and heat detectors, fire alarms, fire sprinklers and manual pull stations. Fire suppression system comprises with hose reels, fire extinguishers, fire hydrants etc… A special fire suppression system has been installed at the computer server room called “FM 200”. It consists with an inflammable gas which has the ability of absorbing heat of a fire and operates under a principle called “double nock system

Although existing condition of fire detection and suppression system is good through integrating BMS condition of the system can be improved further more.

BMS helps to

§ Capture fire alarm

If fire system has integrated to the BMS, when fire alarm activated it can be identified at that moment and can make necessary actions for that.

§ Inform internal and external staff

In present system there is no way to inform the people who occupied the building if fire system has integrated to the BMS can inform staff easily via Public Address (PA) system.

Sensors and field devices

For the fire system heat and smoke detectors, motorized valves can be used as sensors and field devices.

Communication protocols

Same as transportation systems BACNET protocol used as a communication protocol (open protocol) which is approved by the ASHRAE.

Monitoring, controlling and alarming aspects

§ If fire alarm, smoke detector or heat detector activated can be identified where the location it has been activated. And also it can control easily.
